Donald Everett Alford SAN DIEGO -- Donald Everett Alford passed away peacefully in his home on August 16, 2015 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in San Diego, CA on April 1, 1927 to Everett and Anna Louise (Mascho) Alford. Donald graduated from La Jolla High School, Class of 1945. Don proudly served in the Navy in WWII as a Fireman Second Class, F2C, on the U.S.S. Medusa and then worked for the Naval Undersea Research and Development Center as a Physical Science Technician making many trips to the Arctic. Don worked in the automotive industry as well and volunteered for 20 years at the San Diego Automotive Museum, co-founding the restoration team. He loved spending time with his family and friends and was always working on a project in his garage or backyard garden. Don is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mildred V. Alford; a brother, Gene Alford; cousin, Jack Alford; daughters, Donna (Robert) Gladden and Susan Keim; son-in-law, John Horning; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arthur Alford; and a daughter, Jerri (Alford) Horning. A celebration of Don's life will be held Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at 11 a.m., at Casa de Oro Living Springs Church, 10269 Madrid Way, Spring Valley, CA. Burial will follow at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, CA at 2 p.m. Either flowers for Don or donations to The Elizabeth Hospice Care Fund, 500 La Terraza Blvd., Suite 130, Escondido, CA 92025 will be appreciated.
