Celebrating the Life of
Rose Smith Webster
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
Psalm 116:15
Rose Smith Webster transitioned from this earthly life to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 18, 2015, after a brief illness.
She entered this world February 22, 1926 in Dallas, Texas. Her arrival was a joyous occasion for her mother Bennie Smith, and grandparents, Oliver and Martha Smith.
Reared in a Christian home by her mother until she was eight years of age, the time when her mother passed away. She lived with grandparents until she completed Lincoln high school in South Dallas. While at Lincoln she served as a lead majorette, and was noted as a gifted seamstress. Upon completing high school Rose went to California in 1945 where she united with her father Laz Thomas. She attended Contra Costa College for two years, and she received an “Advanced Teachers Certificate” from the Evangelical Teacher Training Association. She was later employed at a Department Store. As a member of the North Oakland Baptist Church, she served as an Administrator, and Teacher in the Vacation Bible School, and Sunday school. Her last employment which lasted twenty-seven years was at Zion Lutheran in Oakland as an Administrative Assistant. She was a volunteer at Kaiser for eleven years. In her free time she loved bowling, and all sports. Since moving to Washington State a few years ago, Alex and Rose were faithful members of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Edmonds, WA.
It was at the Department store mentioned above where she was first seen by Alex C. Webster, whom she married in 1947 and remained married for sixty-eight (68) years. This union was blessed with three children.
Rose was predeceased by her mother, her father, grandparents, her aunts and uncles, and several cousins. Left to mourn her passing and who miss her dearly are: her loving and caring husband Alex; her children, Keith (Theresa), Meryl (Craig Miller), Ivan (NamOK Kim); grandchildren, Zenitra (Ernest), DanBi; great grandchildren, Deanna, Devin, and Kameron; two sister-in-laws: Harriett Harris whom she treated as a daughter and Ionia Strong; two brother-in-laws Harreld D.Webster (Pauline), Isaiah J. Webster (Louise), a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
We will miss her soft spoken voice and her pleasant, heart-warming smile.
