Mrs. Angie Collis (Elrod) Carter, age 89 of Lavonia, died Friday, August 28, 2015 at Brown Health and Rehab.
Born July 10, 1926, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Clifton and Carrie (Welborn) Elrod. She retired from Milliken as a packer. She was of the Holiness faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Thomas Carter; son: James Carter; and daughter: Nancy Whitworth.
She is survived by her daughters: Brenda Nix, Sharon Buffington and husband Maurice, and Sheila Carter; sons: Robert “Pete” Carter and wife Connie, Donald Carter and wife Barbara, Clifton “Poppy” Carter, Douglas Carter, and Jeff Carter and wife Karen; twenty six grandchildren; fifty one great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Gettis Allen and Rev. Sammy Cutshall officiating. Burial will follow in the Lavonia City – Burgess Cemetery.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Crandall King, Eric Whitworth, Andrew Carter, Daniel Buffington, Franky Buffington, and Terry Wood.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at Mrs. Carter's home Sunday afternoon., 1919 Providence Church Road, Lavonia, GA 30553.
