Helen L. Royce Drissel Was called home to be with the Lord on February 28, 2005 at Summer Trace Health Care, Carmel. She was 99 and just shy of her 100th birthday. She was born in Danville, Illinois on April 6, 1905 to Charles A. and Mary J. (Edwards) Royce. She was the youngest child and only daughter and had five older brothers. Helen was married on February 16, 1935 to WIlliam H. "Babe" Drissel. He had played professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1920's. He was a firefighter for 28 years with the Indianapolis Fire Department, retiring from station 16, 56th and Illinois Streets. Helen was employed as a Cosmetic Consultant for Max Factor Cosmetics at downtown L.S. Ayres department store for 28 years. She was a member of Allisonville Christian Church, (Disciples of Christ). She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Mary Jane Neiman, and five brothers, Joseph, William, Walter, John, and Charles Royce. Survivors include a niece, Betty Burke of Lexington, Kentucky; nephew Charles Royce of Crawfordville, Florida, Dan (wife Sandy) Schuchardt of Chicago; several nieces and nephews; and caregivers, Jim and Sharon Reed. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005 in Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center, Carmel, where friends may call from 12:30 until time of service on Saturday. Entombment: Crown Hill Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be given to Shriner's Childrens Hospital.
