Dr. Bruce D. Mills, (Lt Col retired), 79, of Deatsville, AL died Friday August 28, after a long bout with cancer. A native of Pansy, Harlan County, Kentucky. He had been a resident of Alabama since 1979. Mills was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps 1954-1958 and the United States Air Force 1962-1986 retiring with 27 years service. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patsy Franks Mills of Wallins Creek, Kentucky, also a son Bruce D.Mills II and wife Jennifer Hudson and granddaughter Katherine Ann Mills of Tuscaloosa, AL. A daughter Marlana Sue Mills-Ritchie of Prattville, AL and a granddaughter Margaret Elizabeth Ritchie of Toledo, OH. Preceding him in death was a son Gregory Allen Mills and a son in law William Walter Ritchie.

Professor Mills has been an professor of Economics with the business department of Troy University for more than 23 years. He served with AUM prior to his tenure with Troy.

Professor Mills was born Nov 27 1935 in Pansy, KY the son of the late Gilbert Mills and Axie Hubbard-Mills. He is survived by four sisters, Thena Mills Hensley of Richmond, KY, Joyce Mills -Fee and spouse Kenneth of Frankfort, KY. Bernice Mills-McCurry and spouse Clarence of Louisville, KY, Carolyn Mills-Schneider and spouse Earl of Simpsonville, KY.

He was a Deacon and member of the First Baptist Church. He is a 1963 graduate of Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN. received his MBA from the University of Missouri and did some graduate work at the University of Kentucky and did his Doctoral work at University of Denver.

Pallbearers include his associates from Troy University: Ray White: Vice Chancellor, Jimmy Simpson, Ronnie D. Portis, David J. Hoover, Michael A. Schraeder and John E. Oswald. The Special Honorary Pallbearers will be friends of his Poundstone Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church of Montgomery which he had belonged to for over 30 years.

Visitation will be Sunday 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the White Chapel, Greenwood Funeral Home. and the Funeral will be Monday at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church 305 South Perry St. in Montgomery. Officiating will be Dr. Jay Wolf, Dr. Thomas Melzoni and Dr. Dale Huff. Interment will be in the Mausoleum in the Greenwood Cemetery.
