From A History of The Barnes Families in Jackson Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania Beatrice Barnes McClelland:

“James Barns was born in Ireland in 1777 and came to the United Stated with his parents in 1803. He married Mary Alexander, born in 1782, daughter of James and Mary Hamilton Alexander. They lived on the land owned by his father, Thomas, who in his will gave to James “the one hundred acres on which he now lives.” James later acquired the one hundred and fifty acres willed to his brother John. James Barns was naturalized on August 24, 1820. In his oath he swore that he was a subject of Ireland and Great Britain. James and his wife were Presbyterians and were members of the Associate Church of Springfield. They raised a family of nine children, two girls and seven boys. All these children married and all had families except Matthew. James died on October 17, 1842 at the age of sixty-five.”
Their children were Margaret, Thomas, James, John, George, Matthew, William, Isaac, Eliza Jane
