Virginia M. "Ginny" Halverson, 88, of Waukon, Iowa passed away Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.

Virginia Maxine, the daughter of Alfred and Nellie (Livingood) Winter, was born September 9, 1926 on a farm in Ludlow Township, rural Postville, Iowa. She attended country school and Waukon High School for one year, before graduating from Postville High School in 1944.

Virginia was united in marriage with Lynn Halverson on June 2, 1944 at Zion Reform Church in Waukon. To this union fourteen children, seven daughters and seven sons, were born.

Lynn and Virginia purchased her family's farm, which had been in the Livingood family for over one hundred years, in 1955. She helped work the farm and raised her family. She also worked at Northern Engraving in Waukon for six years.

Virginia enjoyed baking, cooking, canning, sewing, and crocheting. She was a chairperson for the Allamakee County Republican Women and was active in the Republican Party.

She was a longtime member of the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, rural Postville, and served on several committees. Virginia was the coordinator of the butter and cheese giveaway, covering sixteen different sites in Allamakee County.

She received the Governor's Volunteer Recognition Award with a ceremony held in Des Moines. Virginia was also a member of V.F.W. Auxiliary #4117 in Waukon.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn; three sons, Jay, Scot, and Tony; three granddaughters, Chanda, Carrie, and Sara; four brothers, Gilbert, who died in infancy, Calvin, Edwin, and Cletus; one sister, Maggie Shindoll; and a son-in-law, Donald Hangartner.

Celebration of Life Service will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, rural Postville, Iowa with a one hour visitation before services at the church on Wednesday.
