Carrie Z. Tanton, 89, of 2906 Marshall, died at 8:40 a.m. Wednesday in a local hospital.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Sorrells and Sons Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Rick Blue and Terry Shoaff officiating. Burial will be in Forest (sic) Park Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
She was born in Wood County on Dec. 25, 1888, the son (sic) of Jimmy Nelson and Mary Little. In 1906 she married William W. Tanton. She was a member of the Lamar Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Claudie and Melvin Tanton of Greenville, Dorma Tanton of Sulphur Springs, and Williams (sic) W. Tanton of Mesquite; five daughters, Corene Miller, Ima Nelson, Mildred Bench, and Mary Tanton of Greenville, and Gussie Faye Miller of Garland; 26 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1951; one daughter, one sister and three brothers.
