W.W. Tanton Rites Observed Monday

William Washington Tanton, 64, of 2817 Sayle street, died Sunday morning at 7:45 o'clock in a Dallas hospital after an illness of two years duration.

Funeral services were observed at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, with the pastor, Rev. L.D. Ball, and Rev. C.B. Roberts officiating. Burial was in Forest Park.

Pallbearers were: Melvin Lindsey, Cletus Rudd, C.O. Bench, L.C. Ballard, E.E. Morris and Thelton Tapley

The Gray-Ballard-Sorrells Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Tanton was born in Wood County on July 10, 1887. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Tanton, pioneer residents of Wood County.

He farmed until retirement, and moved to Greenville three years ago. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving are his widow; five daughters, Mrs. Gussie Faye Miller of Mesquite, Mrs. Ima Lorene Bench of Peniel, Mrs. Mildred Bench, Mrs. Corrine Miller and Miss Mary Juanita Tanton, all of Greenville; four sons, Darma L. Tanton of Sulphur Springs, Claude L. Tanton of Winnsboro, William W. Tanton, Jr. and Melvin V. Tanton of Greenville; two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Tapley of Winnsboro and Mrs. Lela Caldwell of Magnolia, Ark., and other relatives.
