James Edward "Ed" DeHart, Jr., 57, passed away, on Monday, August 24, 2015. He was born in Martinsville, on January 2, 1959, to his parents, Mary Frances Haynes DeHart and James Edward DeHart, Sr. Ed worked at Val-Com in Roanoke, for twenty-seven years and was a member of Mill Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed playing the guitar and had a love for music. He is survived by his parents, Mary Frances Haynes DeHart and James Edward DeHart, Sr. of Henry; and sister, Sharon D. Thurman and husband, Larry B. Thurman; children, Brie Thurman and Adam Thurman all of Martinsville. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. at Norris Funeral Services, Martinsville Chapel on Saturday, August 29, 2015, with Pastor Dr. Brian Goard. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2015, at Norris Funeral Services, Martinsville Chapel and other times at the parents' home, 7406 Henry Road Henry, VA 24102. Burial will be following the service at Mill Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mill Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 6200 Henry Road Henry, VA 24102 or to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1834, Merrifield, VA 22116. Norris Funeral Services Inc. and Crematory Martinsville, VA, 1500 Kings Mountain Road, Martinsville, VA 24112 is serving the DeHart family.
