Lance Cpl. Erik R. Heldt, 26, of Hermann, Mo.; was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.; attached to the 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward); killed June 16 when his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device while he was conducting combat operations near Ramadi, Iraq. Also killed was Capt. John W. Maloney. He is survived by his wife, Crystal A. Heldt, nee Kicker, Vista, Calif., formerly of Hermann; his parents, Gary L. and Patricia J. Heldt, Hermann; one daughter, Taylor Purdy, Washington; two brothers, Matt Heldt and wife Hannah, Mount Sterling, Ill., and Chris Heldt and wife Melissa, New Florence; his parents-in-law, Sheila Dudgeon and Robert Kicker and wife Rita, all of Hermann; two brothers-in-law, Craig Kicker and wife Shari, Washington, and Curtis Kicker and wife Danielle, Hermann; one sister-in-law, Lauren Dudgeon, Hermann; his grandparents, Sidney Eldringhoff, Rhineland, Marcellus Elsenraat and Edward and Leona Baur, all of Hermann; nieces; nephews; cousins; aunts; uncles; other relatives and many friends.
