Mrs. Cobb died Thursday, August 27, 2015, just two days short of her 95th birthday.
She was born August 29th, 1920, in Laneville, Rusk County, Texas to Etha and Alsie Neeley Wade. In 1928, she moved with her family to Jacksonville, Texas.
Shannon was educated in Jacksonville public schools and graduated from Lon Morris College in 1939. During her employment at the Jacksonville Journal, she met her future husband, Sam A. Cobb. They were married after World War II on October 13th, 1946, and made their home in Jacksonville. They had sixty-three wonderful years together.
Mrs. Cobb was a member of First United Methodist Church where she participated in the Wesley Sunday School class. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Utile Dulce Study Club, Sewing Club, and the Ladies Golf Association of Cherokee Country Club.
She also volunteered at First United in her younger years as a Sunday school teacher in the primary department. Later, she worked on the Archive Committee for eight years and then at the Food Pantry at the church.
Shannon was preceded in death by her husband, Sam A. Cobb, her parents Etha and Alsie Wade; a brother, Ronzo Wade; and her two sisters Lucille Wade and Maurine Todd.
“Honey” as she was affectionately called is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Wade and Jan Cobb of Nacogdoches, and Sam and Rosemary Cobb of Tyler. Her grandchildren are Anna Cobb, Sam A. Cobb, V, from Tyler; Jamie and Andrew Carter, Drew and Justa Dowler from Weatherford; and Bret and Amber Dowler from Fort Worth
Honey also was blessed with great-grandchildren Reid and Garrett Norris, Regan Carter and Jameson Crownover from Weatherford; and Colt Dowler from Fort Worth.
Shannon is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The one closest to her heart was Julie Bolton Douglas Smith of Dallas.
She also wished to express her thanks and gratitude to Larry McCarroll.
In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the Sylvia McCarroll Fund at H.O.P.E.
