OBITUARY.
WILLIAM EARL.
William Earl one of best known farmers in the Waikari district, died yesterday morning, at the age of 53 years. He was prominent in public activities before he came to live in Christchurch, about six months ago.
Mr Earl was a farmer in the Waikari District for about 30 years. In his younger days he was considered the best 12.0 wrestler in New Zealand, and he always maintained his interest in all kinds of sport. He was a vice-president of the Waikari United Football Club and one of the promoters of the Waikari Sports Club, one of the most successful amateur clubs in the Dominion. For many years he was starter for the Hurunui Turf Club. He was a prominent breeder of Clydesdales and a judge of this class of horses at many shows.
He was a member of the Waipara County Council until ill-health caused his retirement. He leaves a widow, and two sons, John and Desmond, and a daughter.
