Bonnie Ruth Barton, age 75, of Harrisburg, passed away at 4:39 PM, August 25, 2015 at Deaconess Gateway in Newburgh, IN. Bonnie was born on October 12, 1939 in Harrisburg to the late Carl Kenneth and LaVerne (Rice) Millis. On January 21, 1976 she married Tom Barton and he survives. Bonnie was the Saline County Supervisor of Assessment for 30 years until her retirement in 2001. She served as President of Illinois County Officials; President of the County Assessment Officers Association, Property Tax Advisory Committee, Legislative Committee, played a key part in the passage of local assessment law and was selected as the County Official of the Year. She served as Secretary of Illinois Association of County Officials for countless years. She was a member of Dorrisville Baptist Church. Bonnie loved the water. She and her husband Tom enjoyed spending the winters in Florida, summers at the Lake of Egypt cabin. She enjoyed flower gardening, shopping and playing on her computer. Bonnie is survived by her husband: Tom Barton of Harrisburg; son: Carl (Teresa) Pickering of Harrisburg; daughter: Janet Lawrence of Marion, IL; sister: Susie (Bob) McGehee of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren: Cristina Harmon, Nathan Lawrence, B.A. Lawrence and Blaine Lawrence; several great-grandchildren; nephew: Ryan (Amanda) McGehee of Atlanta, GA. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and two grandchildren: Carrie Pickering and Aaron Pickering. Funeral services for Bonnie Ruth Barton will be held at 11 AM, Friday, August 28, 2015 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Rev. Dewayne Taylor will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM, Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Reed Funeral Chapel.
