Barbara Eaddy Godwin, 96, widow of Henry Evander “H.E.” Godwin passed away on August 27, 2015 in Morganton, NC.

Mrs. Godwin was born November 19, 1918 in the Prospect Community of Florence County, SC. She was the daughter of the late Rollin Texas Eaddy and Nettie DuRant Eaddy. Barbara was a graduate of Lake City S.C. High School and McLeod Infirmary School of Nursing in Florence, SC. After graduation she joined the Army Nurse Corp (ANC) during WWII. Barbara served as a First Lieutenant in the European Theatre of Operations. She was wounded by enemy activity during German Blitz Bombing Raids. She was awarded a Purple Heart for her service to her country.

Mrs. Godwin married Henry E. “H.E.” Godwin from Lake City, SC in July 1948 and they had five daughters. Afterwards she returned to work as a nurse and later became a Director of Nursing at the Lower Florence County Hospital in 1967. She worked there until her retirement. Barbara went on a mission trip to Honduras in 1975 on a tour of duty with the United Methodist Overseas Relief Medical Team. She was a volunteer and member of the Senior Life at McLeod Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Godwin was an active member of Lake City United Methodist Church, the J.B. Strickland Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. She was also a Meals on Wheels volunteer, a member of the Sister Book Club and awarded a Steel Magnolia Award by the Lake City Chamber.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents; a husband, H.E. Godwin; a sister, Marna Eaddy; three brothers, Barnabas, Kilgo and Roger Eaddy; and a son-in-law, Robert A. Thompson.
