Robert was the third child of Dr Alfred de Courcy Lyons and Carew Elwell. He was commissioned into the Army on 7 May 1898 and joined the 3rd Battalion the Royal Warwickshire Regiment in Malta. Went with the Battalion to Bermuda on 19 Feb 1902 as a Captain. He contracted TB, returned to England in Feb 1903 and died at St Edmond's Lodge, Glastonbury aged 26. He was buried with his Father in Yatton.
