Joachim Kroll died at the age of 58 from a Heart Attack while serving a life term for murder in the Rheinbach Prison, in Rheinbach, Germany. Joachim was born into a mining family in the upper part of the Silesia area of Germany, in a town called Hindenburg. Some sources says he was the 6th of 9 siblings, others say he was the youngest of 8 siblings. He suffered from bed-wetting throughout his youth, he had a low I.Q. of 76 and never was a high achiever. He was mentally challenged most his life. Concidered borderline mentally retarded. His father became a prisoner of war in Russia during World War II. He never returned home to his large family. After the War, the family moved to West Germany's North Rhine in 1947, Joachim was 14 at the time. They found a two-room home for the mother and all her kids to share. Young Joachim had to contend with six sisters, though some sources said four. His brothers already left home to strike out on their own. He went to school for about 5 years more and recieved the rest of his education on a farm. In fact, he attributed his later behavior to things he supposedly witnessed on the farm.

Early in 1955, when he was 22, and still living at home, his mother died. It may have proved a traumatic shock for him and pushed him over the edge. Three weeks after her sudden, unexpected death, Joachim Kroll committed his first gruesome rape-murder, one of several. He admitted later he had violent sexual fantasies. JOACHIM KROLL-the Cannibal Killer of Germany. In 1957, two years after his beloved mother's untimely death, he moved to Duisburg, Germany, there he attacked several women. He found employment as a Lavatory Attendant for Mannesmann and Thyssen Industries. He eventually settled in Laar, Germany. Which is a neighborhood of Duisburg.

He would take trips to outlying towns to hunt for victims, usually while walking and hiding in wooded area's. He used different methods to subdue and kill his victims, but usually preferred strangulation. One of the residents from his apartment building, Oscar Muller, ran into his neighbor on the way to the lavatory, Joachim stopped him, warned him the toilet was stopped up and overflowing. When Oscar investigated, he found the toilet full of blood and guts. There was a foul odor. It looked like fresh butcher scraps. He ran down the stairs, ran right into a policeman, who had been searching for a little girl named Marion. The policeman followed the disturbed neighbor back to the toilet. Several children had been missing in the area, some found brutally butchered. The contents of the toilet were soon examined, found to be a heart, kidneys, lung, and intestines of a small child.

They went to Joachims apartment, known as "Uncle Joachim." He seemed unphased by the Policemen. He tried explaining he skinned a rabbit, throwing the scraps in the toilet, plugging it up. At the time Joachim was cooking a stew. They looked around his three room apartment. The stew contained parts of a child. In the refridgerater on plates were more human parts. He did not resist arrest. Or to hide his strange appetite.
