Roger L. Watkins, 85, of Palmetto, Fla. and Hillsboro, Ohio, passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015 at Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington after a brief illness.

Roger was born in Waynesville, the son of Evelyn Watkins Crane and Nelson Watkins.

He retired from General Motors in Dayton as a production superintendent after 30-plus years of service. He was a 42-year member of the Masonic Lodge, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later as a full colonel over a military ordinance school in Germany.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; step-daughter Cathy (Ralph) Warner of Lynchburg; brother, Dr. C. Allen Watkins of Springboro; and a special brother-in-law, Howard (Sharon) Ary of Hillsboro.

Always interested in motors and mechanics, Roger enjoyed repairing and rebuilding golf carts as well as John Deere tractors. He was an avid fisherman in past years enjoying the Florida bay waters in his boat. He leaves behind a host of friends in both Ohio and Florida and will be sadly missed.

Visitation will be at Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro on Saturday, Aug. 29 from 2-4 p.m. Masonic service will be held at 4 p.m., followed by Military Rites conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard.

Burial will be in the Bowersville Cemetery at the family’s convenience.
