Beloved wife of Thomas "Tom" Phillips.

Folklore stories state that her mother disliked Tom so much that when he left Boulder in search of work and income she discredited Tom at every opportunity. Claiming that he had left her for another woman and that he was gone for good, her mother alledgedly harped on her so much that Alice became deeply depressed and her health failed. She eventually died of what might be called a broken heart.

When Tom returned to find his wife had died and the implications of what her mother had done, Tom retaliated by placing a stone on his wife's grave that stated "Alice, First and Last Wife of Thos. Phillips, Talked to Death by Friends." He had wanted it to say 'talked to death by mother', but the stonecutter encouraged him to change the wording.

Their graves sit in the original section of the cemetery where most of the older stones face west overlooking Lake Carlyle.
