Lee Roy Newman, 85, of Bellbrook, passed away Aug. 23, 2015.

He was born Sept. 6, 1929 in Weeksbury, Ky., Skull Holler, to Andrew Jackson Newman and Alma (Conley) Newman, one of 15 children.

He had seven brothers and each brother had eight sisters, as he put it. He is survived by his wedded wife of 62 years, Rose Mary (Wilkin) Newman; son, James Newman; daughter, Carol (Newman) Ingledue; granddaughters, Melissa (Bernie) Sullivan, Ashley (Charles) Hill, Allie Ingledue; great grandchildren, Ryan Haack, Christian Sullivan, Brooks Hill and Collin Lee Sullivan; special dear friend, Gary Hill; and special dear granddaughter, Jessica Hill.

Lee Roy started out as a farm boy, going to work in a brick kiln as a young man. He served in the Army during the Korean War, stationed in San Francisco and the territory of Alaska as a meteorologist. He worked at Frigidaire during the early '50s and then became a body man apprentice at D&T Body Shop, moving to Central Oldsmobile. He then worked at Stenger's Ford as a body man and moved to management/estimator/body man, while attending Sinclair College. He was one of the founding fathers of the city of Moraine when it became a city, serving on the Moraine Planning Commission and the Police Merit Board. He was an active part of the Builders Corporation in that city. In the mid '70s he went on to buy D&T Body Shop with his partner and brother-in-law, Richard Tarr. They worked together for decades, building the family business into what it is today, employing dedicated loyal workman that stayed with him until his retirement at age 81.

He loved traveling our great nation with his family from sea to shining sea. An avid history buff, he made going to historic towns, landmarks, and national parks an experience. He loved to just get in the car and drive across the country to see what was out there and visit as many family members as he could during him and his wife's travels. He has a family so large and numerous to count, and knew each and every one of them personally. He knew all the good family stories and made up a few tales of his own, stringing people along. He was a devoted son-in-law that shared his home for over 10 years making sure their needs were taken care of, even going as far as painting his mother-in-law's fingernails.

Loved and respected by many, he will be missed in very many lives on a daily basis. The family wishes to thank the many nurses at Hospice of Dayton for their kindness and care, Brad, Jennifer, Neal, Rita and Bob. Acknowledgements: American Hemochromatosis Society. Please donate blood. It could save your life. It did his for decades.

Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 28 at the Tobias Funeral Home-FarHills Chapel, 5471 Far Hills Ave. at Rahn Rd., Dayton, from 3-8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2928 Wilmington-Dayton Rd, Bellbrook, with pastor Darrell Messer officiating. Interment, Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
