Loretta Beverly Brown was born on May 4, 1946 in Duluth, MN, the daughter of James and Esthyre (Hennagir) Brown. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Retta graduated from Warroad High School in 1964. Shortly after high school Retta was married to Morris Goos. To this union four children were born: Michele "Shelly," Michael "Mike," Melissa "Lisa," and Monica. They made their home on the Goos family farm near Roseau.

As a young woman she worked at the Roseau American Legion, the Roseau VFW, Land O' Lakes, and as an EMT for the Roseau Ambulance. In 1978 Retta moved to Detroit Lakes, MN, to pursue her nursing career. She attended the AVTI for LPN training. Other schooling that she participated in was the School for Respiratory Therapy in San Diego, CA, and White Bear Community College in White Bear Lake, MN. She was an EMT, CNA, LPN and a RN.

In 1982 she married Richard Collins. They lived in various cities and settled down in Mesa, AZ. Retta lived in Arizona from 1999-2015. She worked at Montecito Post Acute Care and Rehabilitation Nursing Home in Mesa, AZ where she used her education to help others in the Behavioral Unit. She also enjoyed teaching and training CPR and CNA classes. During the years she worked at Montecito she brought a lot of love and joy to the residents and employees. Retta always made sure everyone around her was smiling. She would bake for her co-workers and residents and bring in Hershey kisses for some of them to make them feel special and always did a great job brightening their day. Retta was great at treating all the residents with kindness, decency, and respect; it takes an extraordinary person to be able to do that, especially in the Behavioral Unit. She was an asset to the company and will be greatly missed by all.

In 2015 she moved back to MN and settled in Thief River Falls, MN. She was very excited to be home and able to be close to her family and spend time doing the things she enjoyed. Retta was able to semi-retire when she moved home to enjoy the things she loved the most, which was spending time with her kids, her grandkids and great-grandkids. She also was very passionate about card making, canning, gardening, sewing, playing cards, cooking and baking.

During the last few months she worked at Greenleaf Memory Care in the Locked Unit, part-time. She was a member of the Thief River Falls Eagles Auxiliary and also a lifetime member of Roseau Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Retta was known for her great sense of humor and wonderful belly laugh that made everyone around her laugh. She found joy in being very mischievous and scaring people was her specialty. She always cared about everyone around her and would share her love with all.
