Shannon Compton was the son of William Shannon "Jaybird" Compton and Oney Charlotte Akers. "Shannon Compton, whose death by drowning, noted in West Virginia columns, was a relative of Squire John Compton of Hulette, KY and Jake Compton of Buchanan, KY. His body was recovered Tuesday and the funeral took place at his home at Falls Mills, Wednesday. He was well-known in Lawrence County, Ky."

Shannon Compton, freight engineer of the N and W, was drowned at Alinwick last Monday night, while bathing in Tug River. The remains were buried at the old home at Falls Mills on Wednesday. He was a son of J B Compton, and a promising, worthy young man, and was about thirty years old and unmarried. He carried an insurance policy payable to his mother.
Shannon was swimming, jumped off a train trestle, and drowned. He had given the book, "Jems of Life" to his sister Minnie.
