He was born on January 23, 1940, in Rome, a son of the late Clarence and Irene Muth Griffin. He graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1958, then moved to Utica, where he married the former Christina Yauch, in 1960.
Tony owned and operated several successful businesses in the area. During the 1960’s, he owned Shamrock Billiards in Utica. Since 1970 he was in the bar and restaurant business, owning several establishments, most recently Griffin’s Pub and Griff’s.
Tony truly loved his chosen career. He was both loved and respected by his friends, customers and other business owners, whom he often mentored. He was a generous man, who treated everyone with genuine kindness and respect. He enjoyed telling stories and joking with his many customers, who over the years became true friends.
Tony loved to shoot Pool, and was known as one of the best players in the area. He was admired not only for his outstanding skill and knowledge of the game, but also for his sportsmanship.
Tony enjoyed traveling, from the relaxing beaches of Aruba, to the excitement of Las Vegas. He also cherished quiet time at home with his family, enjoying the pool, teaching his grandchildren to swim.
He is survived by his wife, Christina Griffin, of New Hartford, with whom he shared a blessed marriage of 54 years; his children, Mark Griffin of New Hartford, Mike Griffin and his wife, Debbie of Utica and Lori Griffin of Utica; grandchildren, Anthony and Madison Griffin; great-granddaughters, Iyanna and Chloe; brother, Larry Griffin of Utica; sisters, Arlene Brown of Westmoreland and Susan DePasquale and her husband, Angelo of Westmoreland; sister-in-law Ruth Knittel of Utica; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandson, Michael, Jr. and his brother, Jack.
