Elizabeth's father, Samuel McCartney, while working in the field with a friend, was surprised by Indians. The friend was killed and Elizabeth's father was taken prisoner-chained to two Indians. At night an Indian left a tomahawk where the prisoner was able to get it and get loose. He ran to the river and escaped in a canoe, after hiding for a time in a cave.
On October 25, 1826, Elizabeth married John JACKSON and they became the parents of ten children:
Nancy Jane (Coleman), Sarah T (Martin), James Y., Samuel M., John T., William T., Mary E. (Owens), Martha M. (Cochran), Joseph B., and Winfield S. After her husband's death in 1853, when Elizabeth was in her 60's and 70's she lived with her son Samuel and her daughter Sarah T Martin.
