Mr. Julian Myrick Allen, Sr., age 83, a resident of Sam Johnson Road in Columbia, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at his residence.

A graveside service held in the Garden of Freedom at Maury Memorial Gardens, adjacent to Heritage Funeral Home. Military honors will be provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.

Julian was born on November 23, 1931 in Chickasaw, Alabama and was the son of the late Winfred E. and Vicy Strickland Allen. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Allen married Sarah Allen on May 26, 1951. She preceded him in death in October of 2014. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for many years at Masonite Corporation in Laurel, Mississippi. Julian enjoyed fishing and hunting, as well as watching Nascar races.

He is survived by his sons: Julian Myrick “Rick” (Betty) Allen, Jr. of Louisiana, Gregory “Greg” Michael (Trisha) Allen of Washington State; daughters: Janet (David) Bryant of Columbia, Tennessee, Julie (Kent) Smith of Mississippi, Kay (Harry) Stevens of Leoma, Tennessee; brother: Horace (Bonnie) Allen of Alabama; sixteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Bobby Allen and Ellis Allen.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Bryant, Lynn Steven, Nathan Allen, Jaron Allen, Eric Allen, Benjamin Allen, Joey Allen, and Brandon Allen.
