In the 1860 U.S. Federal Census, James William Jones is age 5 and living in Williamson County Illinois with his parents D.F. and Julia A. Jones. Also living with them are two of his sisters, Sarah E. and Amanda F. In the 1880 census he is 25 and is living in Farmington, Graves County, KY with his wife, Mary Ann McDaniel Jones and their first two children. He is listed as a farm hand. In the 1900 census he is age 45 and living in Graves County, KY with his wife and 10 of their 14 children. In the 1910 census he is age 55 and living in Weakley County, TN and widowed. Living with him are four of his children and one grandson. In 1920 census he is still living in Weakley Co., TN, in the home of his son, Calvin. In 1930 he is still in Weakley Co., TN and living with his daughter and son-in-law, Jewel and Athel Frields.

The following article was published in 1933 at the time of his death:

"Death has again invaded our section and claimed as its victim, James William Jones. He was born Feb. 23, 1855; was married to Mary Ann McDaniel and to this union 14 children were born -- 6 sons and 8 daughters. His companion, six daughters and two sons preceded him to the grave. He professed a hope in Christ and united with the Church of Christ 40 years ago and lived a consecrated christian life, patient, tender-hearted and mothered his children affectionately since the death of his companion. He will be greatly missed by the community, as well as in the home. The deceased is survived by four sons: Houston, Wes, E.J. and Calvin; two daughters: Mesdames Chester Henderson and Athel Frields. A brief service was held in the home and concluded at Cuba Church of Christ. He was buried in Cuba Church of Christ Cemetery."
