85, 3567 Emerald St., New Waterford, died June 21, 1993, in New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. Born in Dominion, he was the eldest son of the late William J. and Clara (Petrie) Hinchey. He received his early education at Mount Carmel School, Cheticamp Convent and Saint Mary's University. He was employed with Dominion Coal Company and was manager of McLean and Company. In 1942 he opened his own grocery store in Scotchtown and founded a small chain of supermarkets known as Hinchey Supermarket Limited. He was a former warden and active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He was a 50-year fourth degree member and past president of Knights of Columbus, Council 3209, New Waterford. For many years he was an active member of Rotary Club, Rotary Pace and Crippled Children's Clinic. He is survived by three sons, Ted, New Waterford; Rickey, Reserve Mines; Gregory, New Waterford; three daughters, Helen (Mrs. Michael Howell), Texas; Teresa (Mrs. Floyd MacAulay), Clare (Mrs. Ken Cormier), both of Sydney; four sisters, Veronica Scott, Ontario; Helen Boyd, Reserve Mines; Joannie Chicarella, Mary MacNeil, both of New Waterford; three brothers, Mike, Peter, Billy, all of New Waterford; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Viola MacDonald; two brothers, Ambrose, John; sister, Teresa.
