Donald L. Sterling, 84 of Heuvelton, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at the Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by his family.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Hillcrest Cemetery with the Reverend Paul Dettmer and Reverend Jenni Piatt officiating.

Don was born on May 26, 1931 to the late Lester and Helen (Perry) Sterling. He graduated from Heuvelton Central School in 1949. He then furthered his education at the Watertown School of Commerce, where in 1950 he became certified as a junior accountant. He then went to Clarkson College of Technology and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting in May of 1957. Don then went on to St. Lawrence University and received a master’s in 1971. To meet the requirements to become certified School District Administrator Don did an additional 30 hours of Graduate work at St. Lawrence University, Syracuse University and Plattsburg University.

Don married Eloise Sandford on June 27, 1959. He went to work for Arthur T. Whalen, CPA in Ogdensburg as a junior accountant from 1957 to 1959. He then became the instructor in Accounting at the Paul Smith’s College form 1959 to 1963. In the fall of 1963 Don became Heuvelton Central School’s Business Manager until 1972. In 1972 he became the Assistant Supervisor of Business and Finance in the Enlarged Ogdensburg City School District until he opened his own Accounting Firm in Heuvelton where he and his wife operated until his illness.

Don is survived by his wife of 56 years Eloise Sterling; one daughter Kim Sterling of Arlington, Vermont; one son Kevin and Helen Sterling of Boston, Massachusetts; two grandsons; Paul and Antonio Villanueva and one great granddaughter Baylor along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Don was a member of the St. Lawrence Count School Business Officials, Heuvelton Amvets Post 1997 and the Stony Brook Hunting Club.
