Joe began flying helicopters at age 19 for the U.S. Army 101ST Airborne Division. A Vietnam Veteran, he saved countless lives as a medivac and was a part of the infamous battle at "Hamburger Hill."

Joe had a deep passion for flying, which led him around the world. He flew helicopters in the Middle East and Machu Picchu.

In 1978, Joe joined the first ever "Life Flight" air-ambulance program in Houston, Tex.

He was killed in a helicopter accident at the Princeville Airport on the island of Kaua'i, Hawaii.
