Billie was born on February 5, 1928 in Duncan, Oklahoma to William B. Petty and Luvenna Mead Petty. Her family lived in Walters, Oklahoma before moving to Mangum where she attended Mangum Schools. Billie married Robert L. (Bobby) Gray on September 28, 1945. They made their home in Mangum where Bobby farmed and worked for the United States Post Office. Billie was a dedicated homemaker who loved to cook for and entertain her family and friends. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, playing bridge, and quilting – having made quilts and afghans for her children and grandchildren. Above all else, Billie loved her grandchildren and gave selflessly of her time and energy. She also worked for the First National Bank, Greer County Treasurer’s Office, and Mangum Tag Agency. Billie was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church.
Her parents, her husband, one brother, Thomas Petty and two sisters, Betty Norman and Faye Moon, preceded Billie in death. She is survived by her two children, Joe B. Gray and wife Alice of Mangum, and Patti Gray Eaton and husband David of Lantana, TX. ; three grandchildren, David Gray and wife Marie of Mangum, Phillip Paxton and wife Jill of Oklahoma City, and Jennifer Paxton of Lewisville, TX.; five great-grandchildren, Danica Gray, Deidre, Maggie, Rory and Ian Paxton, and great-great-granddaughter Madelyn Carrier.
