He was survived by four children, Ron (Nancy) Sweet of Easton, Maryland, Jane Waite of South Vienna, Tom Sweet of South Vienna, and Steve (Loretta) Sweet of Xenia; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Lucile T. (Tuttle) Sweet in 2012.
Roger graduated from Springfield High School in 1940, Defiance College in 1944, and Ohio University in 1948 with a MS Degree in Zoology, minoring in Guidance Counseling. He served two years in the U.S. Navy Hospital Corps.
Roger taught science and chemistry at the Boys Industrial School in Lancaster, Ohio. He was principal at Beavercreek High School from 1951-1964, then principal at Ferguson Junior High School from 1964-1968. For the last 14 years of his career, he served as a work/study coordinator for the Greene County Board of Education, retiring in 1982.
A service in celebration of Roger's life was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Berea Bible Church, 3850 Derr Rd., Springfield. The family received friends at the church from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
The family wished to express their gratitude and appreciation to the nurses and staff of Community Mercy Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Mercy Hospice, 444 W. Harding Rd., Springfield, OH 45504.
