Calvin Henry Matthews

Calvin Henry Matthews, 73 of Chipley, went home to be with the Lord on August 22, 2015 at Northwest Florida Community Hospital surrounded by loved ones.

Henry was born on July 19, 1942 in Chipley, Florida to Calvin Holley Matthews and Mary Elizabeth (Jones) Cox. Henry served in the United States Air Force and worked for 45 years as a Roadway Design Engineer. He was the pastor of Niceville Free Will Baptist, Abigale Free Will Baptist in Vernon, Cottondale Free Will Baptist, and his most recent 28 year tenure at Lovewood Free Will Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Asa Matthews, Homer Matthews, Ronnie Matthews; two sisters: Betty L. Tharpe, Vernell Sapp; great grandchild: Cael Lysaar Porter.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Myrtle Mae (Sasser) Matthews of Chipley, FL; two sons: Bill Matthews of Sevierville, TN, Adrian Matthews of Chipley, FL; two daughters Renee’ Carlisle and husband Michael of Cottondale, FL, Pam Baxter and husband Theo of Chipley, FL; brother: James Vernon Lewis of Headland, AL; two sisters: Louise Hancock of Chipley, FL, Virginia Ruschmeier of Chipley, FL; four grandchildren: John and Katie Baxter of Chipley, FL, Lisa Porter of Marianna, FL, Greg Carlisle of Wisconsin; three great grandchildren: Justin Carlisle of Sneads, FL, Cameron Lysaar Porter of Marianna, FL, Caden Lysaar Porter of Marianna, FL.

Funeral services will be held 11a.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Lovewood Free Will Baptist Church in Cottondale, Florida with Bro. Robert Harrison and Bro. Ernie Dupree officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Lovewood Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Obert Funeral Home of Chipley directing.

Flowers are accepted or donations can be made Lovewood Free Will Baptist, Gideons, or American Cancer Society in his name.
