RUFUS L. BLACK DIES IN NAVAL HOSPITAL OF ACUTE PNEUMONIA

Services were held at two o' clock Sunday afternoon for Rufus Leon Black, A M M 3c, who died of acute pneumonia Friday, February 27, 1948, at U. S. Naval Hospital, San Diego, Calif.

Born September 17, 1927, this young man grew up in the Pine Valley Community, Yalobusha County, Miss., the son of Mrs. Clara Black and the late Sol Black. He joined the navy in November, 1943, and served more than four years, spending 22 months in the Eupopean and Pacific Theathes. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

The reverend Paul Kiihnl, assisted by Rev. Gullet, conducted rites at Old Liberty Church. Burial was in Liberty Cemetery with Newman-Gardner Funeral Home in charge.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Clara Black Adams, step-father, W. M. Adams, two sisters, Mrs. Standley Carmical of Trenton, New Jersey and Mrs. Delbert Ross, Water Valley, Miss.; one brother, Alfred Dean Black with the Army in Korea; 4 half-sister, Mrs. Toy Nichols, Mrs. Paul Turpin, Jr. of Memphis, Tenn., Mrs. R. W. Morris and Mrs Adron Dorris of Water Valley, Miss.; and one half brother, Wallace Black of Memphis, Tenn.

W. H. Anderson, A M M 2-c, one of his shipmates, accompanied the body to it final resting place.
