Jesus has come and taken our father, the patriarch of our family, home to walk the golden streets of Heaven, with his mother, father and family who anxiously awaited at the gate to let him in.

Joe Randolph Gentry, Sr., (known to most as "Randy Boy") 79, of Keswick, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home, Thursday morning August 20, 2015. He was born January 22, 1936 to the late Ollie Woodow Gentry and Sallie Lowry Gentry.

Randy Boy was preceded in death by his four sisters, Katherine, Margaret, Dorothy, and Frances, and his three brothers Otha, Woodrow and Clyde.

Randy Boy worked for Luck Stone for many years before venturing out on his own to start his own trucking business, working side by side with his sons. During his retirement years he enjoyed watching wrestling, westerns and listening to good ole' country music, George Jones being his favorite. He loved to sit around with his kids, listening to them laugh and joke. He was a kind and gentle man who would give you the shirt off his back. He loved his family and his 1971 Chevrolet Cheyenne pick- up truck.

He is survived by eight children, James Gentry (Jimmy) of Dyke, Joe Gentry, Jr. (Billy Buck) and wife Debbie of Charlottesville, Dallas Gentry and his wife Molly (who he thought of as a daughter) of Keene, Sandra and her husband Claude (Danny) Payne of Scottsville, Gary Gentry (Garwayne), who lived with him for many years taking care of each other, Sharon (Shern K) and husband Allen Roberts of Keswick, Kenny Gentry of Esmont, and Lisa and husband Joe Harmon of Schuyler; two brothers-in-law, Jack Durrer of Earlysville, and Kenny Browning of Schuyler (one of which he had "many a good time''). He was the proud grandfather to 23 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.

The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and staff at UVA for their care and kindness to our father during these last few years of his life. A graveside service, that will allow our father ("Dida" to us) to be laid to rest, will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Monticello Memory Gardens with Sandy Kelso officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, August 24, 2015 at Hill and Wood Funeral Home.Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hillandwood.com.
