Charlie C. Gilbert
DECEMBER 28, 1923 – AUGUST 21, 2015
Charlie C. Gilbert, 91, of Athens, GA passed away Friday, August 21, 2015 following a short illness.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Monday, August 24th in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with Reverend Rod Reid officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Sunday, August 23rd at Bernstein.
Mr. Gilbert was born December 28, 1923 in Bostwick, GA to the late William C. Gilbert and Lena R. Gilbert and was preceded in death by his son, Carl Gilbert, sisters, Cornelia Hutchins and Marion Whitley and brothers, Demus Gilbert and Clifford Gilbert.
Mr. Gilbert retired from Jefferson-Pilot Life Insurance Company and from the United States Coast Guard Reserve. He served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre of World War II and served as a signalman on various vessels during his tour of duty.
Survivors include son, Paul R. Gilbert and wife, Barbara of Oakwood, GA; daughter, Char Gilbert Reid and husband, Rod of Georgetown, SC; brother, Raymond Gilbert of Madison, GA; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
