Swinney, John Roger,
84, of LaGrange, KY, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2015 at Baptist Health in Louisville, with his family by his side.
He was born on February 24, 1931 in Prospect, KY, to the late Roger M. Swinney and Mazie Wilhoyte Swinney.
John served his country proudly in the United States Army for 12 years. He was a retired printing supervisor at Luther Luckett Correctional Complex, and a member of Buckner Baptist Church, in Buckner, KY. He married his wife Margaret on March 25, 1997. As told by his family, John loved to tinker with things. He always had a story that would relate to almost anything. John was his grandchildren's number one fan and would go to all of their sporting and other various events. He loved to share his White Castles and spend time with his dog Tucker Oscar with whom he had many precious memories.
John leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife of 18 years, Margaret P. Swinney of LaGrange, KY; his children, Susan and Jon Gudmundsson of Louisville, John Andrew Swinney of Sarasota, FL, and Susan and Darryl Sanders of Shelbyville, KY; his grandchildren, Elizabeth S. Gudmundsson, Jon S. Gudmundsson III, Amanda Horine, Olivia Sanders, and Daniel Sanders, and his special canine companion Tucker Oscar.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Agnes
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at Buckner Baptist church in Buckner, with Pastor Lynn Traylor officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 24, 2015 from 2-8 p.m. and on Tuesday August 25, 2015 from 9 a.m.until the time of service at 11:00 AM at Buckner Baptist Church, Buckner. Interment will be in Valley of Rest Cemetery, LaGrange.
