Mary Katherine Collins passed from this life during the early morning hours of July 26, 2002. Her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, Elzie L. Collins was at her side.

Mary K. as she was affectionately known, was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas on April 24, 1926 and graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1943. With the nation in the midst of WWII, she immediately entered employment as a Department of the Army Civilian at the Army-Navy Hospital in Hot Springs. There, she met and later married Elzie Lee (Tommy) Collins. After his return from the Philippines and assignment to Fort Sam Houston, they moved to San Antonio, Texas. She continued in federal service and ultimately retired after 37 years and various assignment locations including Fort Shafter, Hawaii and the Pentagon. During the last 19 years of her career, she provided caring and dedicated support to the Institute of Surgical Research Burn Unit at Brooke General Hospital. She and Tommy enjoyed an active retirement with travels to Europe, the Orient, various US destinations and their favorite destination, Hawaii. As a devoted member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Mary K. was an active member of the Traditional Choir for the last 24 years. In addition to her husband and many friends,

Mary K is survived by: her children Michael D. Collins and wife Cathy of Dallas, TX; Patrick Kevin Collins of San Antonio, and Sharon Collins Lozano and husband Guillermo of Seattle, WA; her grandchildren, Christopher and Stephen Collins of Dallas, and Sara, Laura and Julia Lozano of Seattle; brother-in-law Theo Collins of Houston, TX, sisters-in-law Helen Adel Collins of Shreveport, LA, and Vellerie Collins of Houston, TX; her nephew Paul Francis Diedrich and wife Sandy of Hot Springs, AR and their children John Paul Diedrich of Atlanta, GA and Karen Diedrich Scott of Little Rock, AR.

ROSARY MONDAY JULY 29, 2002 7:00 P.M. ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH MASS TUESDAY JULY 30, 2002 10: 00 A.M. ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH Interment in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers should be made to The St. Pius X Traditional Choir Fund. Arrangements with Porter Loring Mortuary.
