Harry "Pops" Ackerman, 95, passed peacefully in his sleep Monday, April 13, 2015. Harry grew up in Southern California and Reno, Nev. He entered active duty Jan. 10, 1942, in World War II. He distinguished himself flying as a navigator in the 8th Air Force, 91st Bomb Group, on the B-17 and the 34th Bomb Group flying the B-24. Maj. Harry Ackerman left the Air Force for a 38-year-long career with Morrison-Knudesen. He was stationed mostly in the Far East where he met his wife, June, in Colombo, Ceylon. They moved to Texas in 1989 to be near their family, whom they adored with all their hearts. Harry's devotion to his family and love of life will be missed by all who knew and loved him! The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers of Meadowood Assisted Living in Grapevine and Heart to Heart Hospice for their care and devotion. We take great solace in knowing Harry lived a full and blessed life surrounded by great friends and family. Survivors: Daughter, Sally June Casey; son-in-law, Mike Casey; granddaughter, Junell Casey-DuBois, husband, Matt, and children, Landry and Luke; and grandson, Capt. Mike Casey and wife, Kyllie.
