Benjamin Franklin Hardwick married Sarah "Sallie" Pirtle on June 12, 1873 in Hardeman Co., Tennessee. They had 2 children together prior to Ben's death. They were Franklin "Frank" Taylor Hardwick & Charlie Pride Hardwick.

After Ben's death, his widow Sarah (Pirtle) Hardwick remarried to Arthur Kemp Stallings on August 12, 1886 in Hardeman Co., TN. Arthur was also a widower with 2 children from his first marriage to widow Fannie Taylor (Buffaloe) Fleet. His children with Fannie were Annie Stallings & James Stallings. Fannie also had 2 children from her 1st marriage to Presley Thornton Fleet, Inez Maybelle Fleet and Presley Thornton Fleet, Jr.

Sarah (Pirtle) Hardwick & Arthur Kemp Stallings had 4 known children together: Arthur Bunyan Stallings, Lois Pearl "Dollie" Stallings, Sallie Maxie Stallings and Adgie Little Stallings.

Sarah (Pirtle) Hardwick Stallings died in 1895.

Her husband Arthur Kemp Stallings then married a 3rd time on Nov. 26, 1896 in Hardeman Co., TN to widow Eddie Lee (Lane) Walker. They had 5 known children together. They were Leon Curtis Stallings, James Dradden Stallings, Franklin Theodore Stallings, Nathaniel Hays Stallings & an unnamed daughter Stallings from the 1900 census who does not appear to have lived very long.

To make things even more confusing, Eddie Lee (Lane) Walker also had a daughter from her 1st marriage to W. L. Walker who was named Lennie Beatrice Walker. Lennie married Franklin Taylor Hardwick who was the step-son of her step-father, Arthur Kemp Stallings.

Charlie Pride Hardwick, the other step-son of Arthur Kemp Stallings, and brother of Franklin Taylor Hardwick, then married Eliza Matilda Manley. Eliza's brother Jonathan Harvey Manley then married Sallie Maxie Stallings, daughter of Arthur Kemp Stallings & Sarah "Sallie" (Pirtle) Hardwick.
