Funeral services for Alonzo L. Abel, 77 former owner and operator of The American Shoe Re-builders, will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Cosmopolitan funeral home, 2505 West End ave.
Jim Bill McInteer, minister of the West End Church of Christ, and Sam Youree, minister of the Grace Avenue Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be at Spring Hill cemetery. The body is at the funeral home.
Mr. Abel died of cancer at 2:30 a.m. yesterday at Baptist hospital.
He had been in ill health about a year.
Mr. Abel had been in the shoe repair business most of his life and founded American Shoe Re-builders about 1920.
He had owned and operated his business at 308 Wilburn st., for 17 years when he retired in August, 1958.
On May 11 1941, he married Buena Vista Allen, of Robertson county, who survives.
Survivors include two daughters, by a previous marriage, Mrs. Willie Elkinson, Donelson; and Mrs. Edna Spinnette, Nashville; a son, by a previous marriage, Leon Abel, Nashville; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
