H. Clifford Ades

OTTUMWA – H. Clifford Ades, Jr., 72, of 1845 Albia Road, died at 3:45 p.m. Nov. 15, 1995, at his home.

He was born May 1, 1923, in Albia to Harold Clifford and Dorothy Winpigler Ades. He married Doreen Bage on May 22, 1945, in Sheffield, England. She preceded him in death on Sept. 29 [sic], 1952. He then married Esther McIntosh on June 29, 1962, in Council Bluffs.

A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, he was an employee of the United States Postal Service for 30 years, retiring May 1, 1988. He served in the Army during World War II. He attended the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ and was a member of the OB Nelson Post No. 3 of the American Legion, Walter B. Schafer Post No. 775 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, B.P.O. Elks No. 347, a past board member of the American Bowling Congress and was an avid golfer and bowler.

He is survived by his wife; his mother; a daughter, Diane Gettings of Boonville, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Linda Richmond of Ottumwa; a stepson, Kevin McIntosh of Virginia, Minn.; three grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; a stepgreat-grandson and a brother, Bob Ades of Yuma, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Delton Richard Ades.

The service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with the Rev. Dale Gray officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 11 a.m. today at the funeral home with family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Bill Amos, Ron Young, Ed McElroy, John Majcher and Mike and Donald Ades.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wapello County, 312 E. Alta Vista, Ottumwa.
