Clifford Laverne Linn, 81, Sturgis, S.D., went home to be with the Lord, on Monday, July 31, 2006, at Fort Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 2, 2006, at 7 p.m., at Believers Fellowship Church in Sturgis, with Pastor John Williamson officiating. Burial will be on Thursday, August 3, 2006, at 11:30 a.m., at Black Hills National Cemetery with the 109th Engineering Battalion of the South Dakota National Guard providing military honors.

Cliff was born July 16, 1925, near Center, N.D., to Samuel Theodore and Elsie Elizabeth (Greeley) Linn. He was the youngest of nine children. The Linns moved to Hereford, Meade County, S.D., in 1936. He graduated from Sturgis High School in 1943. Cliff married Ruth Moore on June 10, 1945, in Sturgis, S.D. He served in the U.S. Navy operating sonar and radar during World War II, 1943 n 1946, and served in the National Guard from 1965 n 1985. He was selected Soldier of the Year for the State of South Dakota, 1977 n 1978. He served on Meade 46-1 school board for 15 years and mayor of Sturgis for two 2-year terms.

He retired from Black Hills Packing Company.

He loved children and enjoyed driving for Sturgis Bus Company.

He was an ordained minister, one of the pastors at Believers Fellowship Church here in Sturgis and was one of the founding organizers and board members of the KSLT Radio station.

He gave a gift of kidney to his son, Kent, and he was blood donor for many years.

Cliff was a member of Believers Fellowship in Sturgis, Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International, Kiwanis Club of Sturgis Golden K, Young Life, on the Board of Hospice of the Northern Black Hills, Sturgis Planning and Zoning, and a volunteer in many things.

He was a history buff and an avid gardener

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Linn, Sturgis; daughter, Kathie Grant, Sturgis; granddaughters, Alesha and her husband, Scott, Blauer, Ariz., April and her husband, Brian, Mahoney, Rapid City, SD, Amber and her husband, Jake, Sincock, Mo., Allyson Grant, Rapid City; great grandchildren, John, Alyse, Andrew, Stephanie, and BJ; and numerous nieces and nephews. Happy to have shared Cliff's life with him are family, friends, and relatives too numerous to mention.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, three sisters, and son, Kent Linn.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Hospice.
