Charles Perry Hays, 73, of Hopewell, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 10, 2015. Born in Cherster, Va, he was the son of the late Henry Floyd and Geraldine Marie Tucker Hays. He was also preceeded in death by his brother, William Frances Hays and his wife Pat. Perry is survived by his wife Glenda K. Hays; two brothers, Larry Wayne Hays and his wife, Tempie, and Jerry Floyd Hays Sr. and his wife Rose; three sisters, Joy Hays Roussell and her husband Wyman, Gayle Hays Mahone, and Sharon Leigh Hays; and numerous nieces and nephews. Perry graduated from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity and from Virginia State College with a Bachelor's degree in Micro Biology. Perry was currently serving as Associate Pastor at New Jerusalem Fellowship in Prince George. Along with Perry's outstanding vocal talent, he was particularly gifted in chord melodies and instramental and vocal harmonies. Aside from Perry's talent to play numerous Instruments, his legacy was guitar and the theory and technique he enjoyed sharing as a teacher with many students he taught at Music Studies Unlimited in Chester. Perry played through the years with many local groups and traveled playing in serveral bands in his earlier years. Perry particularly enjoyed singing and playing gospel harmonies with his sister, Joy; brother, Jerry; brother-in-law, Wyman; and nephew, Jerry "Jay" Hays, ministering as the Hays family. The family will recieve friends from 6:00 p.m.to 8:00p.m.on Thursday, August 13,2015 at New Jerusalem Fellowship Church, Prince George. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14 2015 at the Church. Interment will follow in Merchant Hopewell Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, 30 North La Salle, Suite 4300, Chicago, Il 60602-2584 Humane Society of Hopewell, 3412 Oaklawn Blvd. Hopewell, Va 23860.
