James W. Anderson, 91, Libby, a former Kalispell resident, died Tuesday in the Libby Convalescent Center.
He was born July 22, 1889 in Portland, North Dakota. He was raised in North Dakota and attended business college in Fargo, North Dakota.
He married Anna J. Smestad on December 24, 1912 at St. Paul, Minnesota. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Froid and Mr. Anderson served as first county treasurer of Sheridan County.
In 1920 he moved to Whitefish and worked as a cashier at First Security Bank, later moving to Missoula where he worked for Missoula Savings and Trust. In 1942 he moved to Kalispell where he was parts manager for Manion's Motors and for many years worked as a bookkeeper at the State Liquor Store. He came to Libby in 1973.
His wife died in 1944.
He was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Kalispell.
Survivors include a daughter, Jean Rooney, Libby; a son, Robert, Kailua, Hawaii; a brother, Will, Venice, Florida; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
