He claimed to be a doctor, but according to an 1881 England census, was a solicitor (an attorney).
From 1885-1888 when he was hung, all the newspapers called him Walter H. Lennox Maxwell, and it was a big deal, not just in St. Louis.

Here is his Missouri death certificate...

Name: Hugh M Brooks [W H Lenox Maxwell]
Gender: Male
Race: White
Age: 26
Birth Date: abt 1862
Death Date: 10 Aug 1888
Death Place: St Louis, St Louis, Missouri, USA

How does one make an alias or AKA? He had 2 or 3, actually. If there isn't any, there will, for almost certain, be a duplicate, as from 1885-1888 he is always only called Maxwell. His mother is Mrs. Brooks, but that could be from a 2nd marriage.
