Married to Sitha Anne (Engle) Akers on February 22, 1877. Father of Myrta Lee, Edith May, Dora Everett and Melvin Akers.

-Death of S.D. Akers. Succumbs After Short Illness With Paralysis

Samuel D. Akers died at his home on Broad street Monday morning from the effects of a stroke of paralysis which he received one day last week. Mr. Akers was born in this county, June 26, 1849, being 55 years old at the time of his death. He was married to Anne Engle, February 22, 1877, and the union was blessed with four children, three of whom survive. Mrs. Bill F. Macy, Mrs. Walter Asdell and Dora Akers, of Terre Haute. He was a member of the Christian church for over thirty years and lived a consistent Christian life. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge, the macabees, the Fire Department and the Teamsters Union.

The funeral services were held Tuesday at the Christian church, being conducted by the pastor, Elder David Francis. Interment at Center Ridge.
