The following obituary appeared in the "Westmoreland News, Montross, Virginia, Wednesday, August 26, 2015. "Viola Marian Carpenter died peacefully in Colonial Beach on August 20, 2015.

Marian is survived by her two daughters, Valerie Marian Ivanyshyn (with friend Ronald Wilfred Ridgely) and Austina Marie Ivanyshyn (with her husband Deane Howard Whitman); granddaughter Alexandra Marian Nance; great-grandson, Michael Paul Nance, Jr.; great-granddaughter, Aubrey Marian Nance; special neice, Nada Irene Balderson, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her estranged husband, Walter William Ivanyshyn and her husband, Lester Curtis Carpenter Jr., along with her two sisters, Dorothy Louise Holloway and Virginia Mable Balderson Rose.

Marian was born June 12, 1922 at the Rappahannock River near Warsaw Virginia to William Andrew "Berry" Jenkins and Ola Onita Oliff Jenkins. From an early age "Cottontop" loved to talk and enjoyed being with people. It was only natural that she should gravitate to the real estate profession that allowed her to not only be successful but also play match-maker for people and their homes.

No one will forget the beautiful hats and outfits Marian wore. She enjoyed being with people and was ready to join in a party and if there wasn't one, create one with her smile and wit. Marian was a generous individual who loved life and was passionate about being positive no matter what challenges came her way.

In her own words: "My main motto in life -- Love thy friends and enemies alike. It's been a long and exiting [sic] life with many ups and downs but I'm so thankful for all of it! So please remember that Love will usually conquer all."

On Sunday, August 30, at 2 pm the family will receive visitors at the Riverboat Restaurant Tiki Room, 301 Beach Terrace, Colonial Beach, VA 22443.

I lieu of flowers, please send donations to Colonial Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad, 225 Dennison Street, Colonial Beach, VA 22443.
