Ludie E. Ward, 85, a Bolivar resident most of her life, passed away on Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, in Union Hospital of Dover, O. She was born Nov. 2, 1921, at Golden Pond, Ky., a daughter of the late Elmer Futrell and Donie (Underhill) Futrell. She was a homemaker all her life and was a retired Tuscarawas Valley School employee. During World War II, she was a welder in a tank factory in Hammond, Ind. She was a quilter and won several prizes at the Tuscarawas County Fair including Best of Show with one of her quilts. She enjoyed cooking and was featured in The Times-Reporter for her cooking and was known for her homemade noodles. Volunteering was very important to her. Over the years she served as volunteer at the Bolivar United Methodist Church, Tusky Valley Band Mothers and Massillon State Hospital at Massillon, O. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Ward, who died Nov. 29, 1989; a son, Frank D. Ward, on Aug. 17, 2006; a brother, Clyde Futrell; and a sister, Betty Futrell. Surviving are three daughters, Barbara (Ned) Howenstine of Washington, D.C., Carol (Charles) Schwertner of Chagrin Falls, O., and Donna (Kevin) Stanke of Dover, O.; five grandchildren, Jennifer Howenstine, David and Kyle Schwertner and Sara and Mark Stanke; five sisters, Justine Cleaver, Jean Bird, Charlene Dick, Nellie Scott and Vivian Sheldon; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at the Bolivar United Methodist Church, 256 Poplar St. SW, Bolivar, O. 44612, with Rev. Paula Koch officiating. Calling hours are Friday from 6 to 8 at the Lebold Funeral Home, 248 Park Ave. SW, Bolivar, O., and at the church from 10 a.m. to time of service on Saturday. Burial will be in Fort Laurens Cemetery at Bolivar, O.
