Wayne Robert Harvey

Wayne Robert Harvey was born on July 8, 1928, in Portland, Oregon, the son of Albert and Daisy Harvey. Wayne's family relocated to Long Beach, California in 1942 so his father could work in the shipyards to support the war effort. Wayne joined the U.S. Navy in 1946 after graduating from high school. After serving in the military, he graduated from Long Beach State University with B.A. and M.A. degrees.
A job offer as principal of Bellevue Elementary School brought Wayne and his family to Atwater in 1956. Wayne held the position of principal until he retired in 1986. Wayne may be remembered as Bellevue School's only motorcycle-riding principal.
After his retirement, Wayne and his wife, Gloria, moved to Long Barn, California where Wayne remodeled their vacation cabin to turn it into their primary residence. While living in Long Barn, they enjoyed skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, bike riding, backpacking, and dancing. When not at home they traveled extensively in their motorhome. Wayne was always ready to load up the motorhome and "hit the road."
He passed away at home on August 18, 2015, in Atwater, California.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Kenneth Harvey (Irma), and his daughter, Sandra Lee Harvey. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Harvey; children, Yvonne Jones (Ralph) Merced, CA; David Harvey (Patricia) Clovis, CA; Cheryl Harvey Concord, CA; Mark Taylor (Shannon) W. Vancouver, B.C.; Cynthia Lawley (Frederick) Castro Valley, CA; and grandchildren Sean Harvey, Shelby Harvey, and Parker Taylor.
Memorial Services will be held at the Atwater United Methodist Church at 2550 Linden St in Atwater on Saturday 22 August at 10 am.
