Age 83, passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving wife and family, on Sunday, February 01, 2004 at Appleton Medical Center. Harold was born in Menasha, on May 8, 1920, the son of the late Alexander and Apoline Hart Laux. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Harold married Rita M. Roemer and they enjoyed 40 years of marriage, until she preceded him in death. Harold married Helen K. Roemer on September 4, 1982 and they have enjoyed 22 loving years together. He was employed at the Thilmany Paper Co. and the Prudential Insurance Co., where he retired. Harold loved hunting, fishing and camping. Following his marriage to Helen, he also enjoyed traveling. Harold will be greatly missed by his nine children: Jean Leary; Nancy Dennis Menzel; David Laura and Robert Cynthia Laux; Mary Robin Benton; Thomas Marcia and James Mary Laux; Sandra Brian Pufahl; Susan Dennis Hintz; two step-children: Cathy Craig Smith; Thomas Linda Roemer; sisters and brothers: Sr. Marie LeClerc Laux. SSND; Sr. Michael Marie Laux, SSND; Br. Michael Laux, OSB; step-sister, Marion Hubers; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and close friends, Len and Mac. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rev. Donald Laux; step-mother, Mathilda; and son-in-law, Robert Leary. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1617 West Pine Street, Appleton, with Rev. John P. Bergstadt officiating. Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 3 from 4 until 7 p.m., and again at the church on Wednesday from 10 until 10:45 a.m. The interment will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. A Prayer Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established.
